SKDtac – PIG ‘Delta’ Utility Gloves – First Impressions

Overview:

An overpriced, mass produced “second skin” glove with a lot of hype and buy in from the shooting community. While these gloves have some nice materials and design features, I feel they are currently overpriced for what you get, and the stitching is poor for the high price of the gloves. SKDtac’s customer service was quick to respond to my inquiry about the product defect I ran into, but could have went the extra mile to stand behind their product. SKDtac needs to up their game in the stitching of these gloves if they want to command such a high price.

First Impressions:

I had to get a pair of these to try after all the hype on YouTube and shooting sports blogs. Everyone rants and raves about how awesome these gloves are, but my experience proved otherwise so far…

After a whopping TWO range trips for a total of maybe 30mins each, the elastic cuff started to un-thread itself. Having experienced this on numerous clothing items before, the end result is usually a pile of fabric when the stitch finally gives way and falls apart down the entire seam. Needless to say, I was not happy when this stitch broke on the third or fourth time of putting the gloves on. After looking over some Amazon reviews, I noticed a trend with blow outs at the seams or stitching coming undone. Piss-poor stitching for a $30 pair of thin gloves…. I expected quality construction for this price. A pair of Mechanix “fast-fit” are a MUCH better value at $10 a pair compared to these if you are looking for a “second skin” glove. If the PIG’s were using high-tech and costly materials like Kevlar, I could justify the price a little easier.

When I contacted SKDtac customer support and sent them pictures, they assured me I had gotten a “defective” pair and should return them. They said this is not indicative of the quality of their product, but time will tell once I get a new pair to test. They offered to replace the gloves for me, but I would have had to pay for shipping to them (1/3 cost of the gloves) then wait for the new pair to arrive, no thanks. I ended up getting a refund through Amazon thanks to their stellar return policy for prime members, but was unable to get a replacement pair as they are out of stock at the moment.

If they really wanted to stand behind their product and make a customer happy and willing to buy their products again, they could have sent me a new pair or at least paid for the shipping back to them for the “defective” pair since the damage was not my fault. These are consumable items which they are expecting repeat sales on from the same customer, why not go the extra mile and take care of someone who got a “defective” pair to build brand loyalty and trust in the product? Maybe because they ALL have this issue and they are just trying to do the bare minimum to reply to my request….

What’s Next:

Since all mass produced goods can have a bad item slip past the QC line here and there, I want to give these a fair shot at a review after I get a new pair. Amazon is out of stock, so I’ll have to either wait or buy some off SKDtac directly. Stay tuned for an in-depth review when I get my hands on a new pair.
